Scott joined Scofield, Gerard in 1984. He specializes in handling complex business and commercial litigation cases, both for the plaintiff and the defendant. His practice includes intra-company ownership and financial disputes, bankruptcy and succession litigation, private securities, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and insurance disputes.
Scott represents local taxing authorities in sales and use tax litigation in state and federal bankruptcy court. Scott has successfully argued numerous times before the Louisiana Supreme Court, United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, and Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal. Scott has tried hundreds of cases in Louisiana’s federal, bankruptcy, and state courts. He has also handled cases in various federal and bankruptcy courts in Texas, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, and New York.
In a significant career move, Scott transitioned from Scofield, Gerard to establish his firm, Scofield Law Firm, LLC, in January 2024. This marked a new chapter in his professional journey, following the retirement of his father, John B. "Spike" Scofield (now deceased), and Richard Gerard and Patrick Gallaugher from Scofield, Gerard.
